Speakers for the Annual Meeting

We have an outstanding array of speakers for the meeting at Asheville, mostly well known but the following information has been provided for those who may not be familiar with all of them:

Dr. Carl Phetteplace is Vice President of the A.R.S. and a surgeon in Eugene, Oregon.
Rex Pearce of Pearce Seed Company is a retired seed specialist who for many years ran his business in Moorestown, New Jersey. He is now located at Hendersonville, North Carolina.
Mr. Fred Galle is Director of the Ida Cason Calloway Gardens at Pine Mountain, Georgia. He is a specialist in hollies and rhododendrons, and a pioneer in the introduction of these plants in the South.
Dr. Thomas Wheeldon of Richmond, Virginia, an orthopedic surgeon, is a Director of the Society and for many years was President of the Middle Atlantic Chapter. He operates a nursery specializing in azaleas and rhododendrons.
Dr. David Leach is author of the book "Rhododendrons Of The World," and a well known rhododendron breeder and writer.
Dr. Donald Wyman has been, for many years, horticulturist at the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University at Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. He is author of several books including "Shrubs and Vines For American Gardens," "Trees For American Gardens." The Arnold Arboretum pioneered in the testing of rhododendron species and varieties adaptable to cold climates.
Mr. Frank P. Knight is Director of the Wisley Gardens of the Royal Horticultural Society, and head of the Horticultural School of that Society. He has received the Victoria Medal of Honor for outstanding contributions to horticulture.
Dr. Mark Cathy of the U.S.D.A. Research Center at Beltsville, Maryland has done pioneering work on the effects of light and chemical regulators on blooming and growth of plants. Much of this work has been done with rhododendrons and azaleas.
Dr. Robert Ticknor is Secretary of A.R.S. and a research worker at the North Willamette Experiment Station in Oregon.
